Napless Lunacy

Elias did very well last night without his pacifier. Usually when we put him to bed, he can take up to a half an hour to fall asleep. Sometimes he plays for a little while, other times he just talks and sings to himself. Last night, he had a lot to say. He talked to himself very loudly at first. There was no crying or even asking for the pacifier, just loud talking. It took him a good 45-60 minutes to quiet down, but even then he’d be silent for up to 10 minutes, then burst out in a phrase or two. We’re pretty sure he was asleep by about 10pm. He didn’t make a peep all night. In fact, he actually fell out of bed at some point and didn’t make a word. Mark went into the bedroom only because he heard a thud. We recently took the guard rails off the side of Elias’ bed, so that may be why he fell out.

This morning Mark let me sleep in, so I wasn’t awake when Elias got up. Mark told him how proud we were of him. Elias was in a great mood this morning, but he refused to go down for a nap without his pacifier. He asked for it a couple of times and at one point was crying for it frantically. He didn’t want my cuddles or comfort, he just wanted his pacifier. I find that really sad and it’s one of the reasons why I wanted to do away with it.

At one point yesterday, all four of us were in the play room. Noah was in the exersaucer and Mark and I were playing with Elias on the floor. It was a really good time. Elias and Noah enjoyed playing together too. Elias took a switch-a-roo out of the bin and wanted to put it in the exersaucer for Noah to play with, so I took out one and he clicked it in place with much satisfaction.

Today has been crazy and exhausting. Without his nap, Elias has been nothing short of a little lunatic. I guess he got a second wind and he’s been running all over the place. We got him to sit still briefly to color (that lasted 5 minutes) and I tried to read a book to him, but as usual he got distracted halfway through. Now I have him sitting still watching The Backyardigans, but I’m not sure how long that will last.

The upper half of our Christmas tree lights went out and Mark spent nearly an hour trying to figure out why. No fuses seemed to be blown and if there was a burnt out bulb causing the problem, we couldn’t find the right one to replace. It was maddening trying to do this while Elias was babbling loudly, so Mark says he’ll take care of it tonight after the boys go to sleep. It’s depressing to have a dark and naked Christmas tree sitting over in the corner, so I hope he can figure it out. Especially after this nonstop day we’ve had, it would be nice to have pretty lights to sit and look at while relaxing this evening.

I found your LJ through the CD comm on LJ. & I have 3 questions for you!
    1. I LOVE that exesaucer, what is it called so I can look for it?
    2. Elias is my LO’s name too! I guess that isn’t a question…
    3. How do you feed your LJ into your.. is it LJ or a blog outside of LJ?

Cool! Thanks for the comment. I love the name Elias because it isn’t TOO terribly common. I like saying it. :) How old is your Elias?

It’s an Evenflo Exersaucer a lot like the one I linked, but I’m not sure of the model’s exact name and don’t see it on Amazon. You can buy switch-a-roos to replace the snap-in toys that come with it. Both Elias and now Noah love this toy! Elias still likes playing with it from the outside.

My website is set up over at digitalwoe.com using WordPress. There’s an LJ cross-poster plugin, so whenever I make a post over there, it copies it over here.

You know, I didn’t realize until now just how similar Elias and Noah look. They have nearly exactly the same face.

They do look similar, but I don’t think they look exactly alike. Here’s a comparison of them both at 6 months. The eyes are similar, but I definitely think they’re unique:

Poor Elias! I hope he adjusts quickly to not having the paci. I love the photos of the boys playing together, they’re just so sweet! As always, I love Noah’s expression in the last one: he’s so serious! :-)
