I am totally sold on shooting in RAW! Some of the shots I got of Elias yesterday are just unbelievably crisp, even at 200% magnification. I still need to learn more about the digital darkroom though. I don’t like editing my photos a lot, but I do usually like to bump up the contrast. I have a pretty good book about it and only got through the first chapter before becoming pregnant with Elias. I was really starting to get into photography before I found out I was pregnant, but totally dropped it in favor of learning all I could about pregnancy and birth.
This particular photo isn’t very good technically, but I’m posting it because you can see Noah’s two little teeth at the bottom of his mouth! This boy has been teething hard-core for a while now, so I wouldn’t doubt if a couple more teeth are going to pop up soon. He really enjoys munching away on apple; I need to get one of those mesh bags they make for babies to insure he doesn’t gag on any pieces he manages to chew off though.
Elias, Teyla and I went on a walk around the pond yesterday, where I got many good shots. It’s really difficult to shoot anything but Elias when I’m juggling him and a dog, but I tried. Here, I was pointing the camera upward for all of 45 seconds and when I looked down, Elias was smooshing a berry between his fingers and I had to check his mouth and remind him not to eat anything he finds on a walk.
Bonus Noah photo because he’s a cutie:

Oh man, look at the eyes on those two. They are going to kill the girls in about 14 years.
Thank you. I think they’re very good looking kids, but I’m biased!
Great shots! I love shooting in RAW
Thanks. I had no idea it was no harder than JPG processing!
His teeth are so big! Monkey only has one. It looks out of place. Also, I really love your photography skills. You’re better than a pro.
Thank you so much! I’m definitely not better than a pro as I have lots to learn, but I really appreciate the compliment!
You definitely are a hell of a lot better than the pros we got for monkey’s 6 months. We’re getting those retaken, so I hope they come out nearly as good as all your pictures are coming out. I guess the difference is yours are taken out of love, and it shows.
Thank you. I just realized that almost every photo I’ve taken since I got my new lens has the top of the head missing. I can’t even stand looking through my old photos right now. I’m glad I’m now conscious of it, but it’s a bit depressing.
hahaha I do that too! My husband jokes with me about it. I always, but ALWAYS cut off the top of the head unless I’m trying not to.
Wow – those photos look amazing! I’ve recently got a DSLR myself and so far haven’t ventured much outside the auto settings – but I’ll have to give RAW a go. Very impressive.

Thanks! What kind of DSLR do you have? I’m really hoping to expand my photography knowledge and skill this new year!
I just bought a Canon 450D
Zoey @ Good Goog´s last blog ..Hello, Gene
You know, we’re doing the baby-led weaning model of introducing solids. I learned a lot about the process of learning to chew and swallow in my research. Gagging, while a little scary, is actually perfectly ok. It’s the built-in reflex we’re born with to prevent us from choking. By letting him bite off pieces that are too big for him and then gag on them, he’ll learn how much can fit in his mouth and how to take smaller bites.
Not saying you shouldn’t do something that makes you most comfortable, but don’t worry too much if some gagging is involved in the process of learning to eat.
Thanks! I’m not concerned he’ll choke or anything, I just figured the mesh bag would be more constructive for him for teething purposes.
