Baby Announcements?

I’m really tired of blowing my nose. At least I can breathe out of it, which is good because I’ve been sticking my foot in my mouth all week.

Unrelated, now that I’m actually promising baby announcements, does anyone have any ideas on how I can make some? My original intent was to just create a 4×6 design in PhotoShop with a photo of the baby and the announcement details on it in text and then have the whole thing printed as a photo with a matte/flat finish. Now I’m second guessing whether or not text and design (ie, the non photo elements) will translate well on photo paper and if that will just seem weird. Any thoughts on this?

I don’t really want to have “real” announcements printed as that’s somewhere between $1-$2 a piece and I can get photos printed for 20 cents each.

OMG — its not just me! My sinuses have been driving me crazy for the past 2 weeks… I’ve been snoring like crazy and my wife is about to kill me *laugh*

as long as they are done in a high resolution they should print just fine. i’d say at least 120dpi. the higher the better. for 20 cents each, shoot, make a sample, upload it to wal-mart, walgreens, shutterfly, wherever and give it a test run.

What about making a Scrapblog page? They’re not directly printable but you can save it to Flickr and download/print it. It’d look really awesome printed the next size up from 4×6… 5×7?

Oooh, I have some designs I can share. Most of mine are for 5×7s, but I can show some samples if you’re interested.

Mine will be all fancy schmancy printed (probably on linen paper) but will be under $1/ea. You could definitely get nice looking announcements on regular photo paper though, text and all.

you can get 100 normal size or 50 oversize postcards for free. That’s what Jade got for her baby announcements. 100 might seem a little excessive, but they’re free! Send ‘em to everyone you know! :)

oh, you do have to pay for postage, and if you upload your own design (which you probably would be) that’s $4.99.

Ooh, that sounds lovely. I ended up buying the Real Love announcements, filling them in by hand and stuffing in a hospital picture. It helped that I didn’t have very many to send, perhaps 10, but I regret not injecting more creativity into the cards.

If you wanted to share some designs, I’d be eternally grateful! Where are you getting them printed on linen paper?

I’m hoping to have the design/template done well in advance so I can just pop in a photo, add some text and get them printed. If I don’t take care of the design before the baby arrives, I will probably end up with something like what you did if I want the announcements to go out before he’s one. :)

Mightygirl made some REALLY cute ones. Here are some ones on flickr – warning, some of them are buttass.

Thanks for the links! I hadn’t gotten around to searching Flickr for baby announcements, but I planned on it. There are some great, simple examples there.

I can’t wait to see them, are you getting anxious yet?

  13. lynda says

I alternate days being REALLY excited and happy he’s almost here and being terrified and hoping that I go to 44 weeks. :) There are more days of excitement than terror, thankfully.

I’m glad, you’ve been really peaceful all throughout it seems and I’ve loved how thorough yu’ve been.

Sent you an email with lots of links! :)

Thank you! They’ll give me some ideas, if nothing else.

Thanks, that’s a good idea! (Every time I try to access their site though, every little bit of it takes FOREVER to load.) I might be able to grab some cool backgrounds or patterns from there if nothing else.

My last coworker to have a baby made his own. I assume in a process similar to what you are describing. It’s a pic of the the little one on a blanket with jelly beans around her (she was born right around Easter). Across the top it says “introducing Cassie Elizabeth” and across the bottom it has her D.O.B., weight, length, etc.

I don’t know what I’m going to do.
I really want the baby and the dog in the pictures, mainly just because I was so pissed that my grandma asked me 3 times if we were getting rid of the dog – because OMG the Rottie will EAT the baby.

My uncle suggested putting the baby on a platter and having the dog behind him or her with a bib on.

That would totally be hilarious. You should send your grandmother a special announcement of exactly this! And maybe something about being baptized by the dog’s drool.

I thought it was a great idea too! She may just have a stroke.

Seriously though, I’m thinking about trying to get one of Harley curled up in a ball with the baby btw her legs or of Harley and the baby laying nose to nose on their stomachs.
