Photography Assignment: Fences [142/365]

05-22-10 - Walk Softly Noah

Walk Softly, Noah

This week’s Digital Photography School assignment (05/12-05/26) is Fences. I was excited for this simply because I knew it’d be easy enough for me to participate; I have a fence in my own back yard! (This may not seem like a big thing to you, but I haven’t had a fence in my backyard since I was 14.)

I lucked out in the morning as Mark took the boys outside to replant some flowers he bought last week. By the time I got outside with my camera, Noah had crawled across the yard to the fence. He was sitting beside it, eating grass and playing with sticks. Have I mentioned lately how much I love having a yard? I regret not renting a house from the time we had Elias because the whole family benefits greatly by having a nice space outdoors to call our own.

I snapped this really quick while taking Teyla and Elias on a walk this afternoon. Originally, I was just going to take Teyla out, but when Elias saw me getting ready he grabbed his jacket and shoes. He was very excited about coming with me! Unfortunately, he prohibited me from taking any pictures since I had to keep a close eye on him.

I’m happy with how this came out, even though it was a snapshot. I love these trees (someone, please tell me what they’re called!)

I truly hate everything about this photo, but I ran out of day and this is the best of the worst. I am only uploading it to to prove I did shoot off the camera today.

Work was hell, it took nearly two hours to get Noah to sleep tonight, and I spent a good 15 minutes on a failed long exposure experiment. Blah. Tomorrow I’ll go outside.

[3/365] Cohorts

I promise some time in the coming year, I’ll submit 365 photos of something other than my children. But not today!

I’m trying to make it part of Elias’ daily routine to eat lunch, go on a walk with the dog, pick up his toys and then take his nap. It was so chilly out today, but Elias didn’t mind much. Teyla is so good with babies. As soon as Elias was mobile she rightly stayed out of his way if he was barreling toward her, but she still cares for him. If he stirs in the middle of the night or cries out from him room, she races to his door to see if he’s okay.

She is similarly concerned with Noah and loves to lick his hands and face. (Though on Christmas, she let him get a good hold of her ear hair while he was sitting in his BebePod. Poor thing shrieked and shrieked.)
