Friday Finds: Food

Happy Friday everyone! It’s that time of week again where I share my favorite photography and photo editing links found throughout the week! I have some really great links to share with you too, so please be sure to visit and comment on these articles!

This week’s photographic theme was Food and the Flickr group received more submissions than ever before with 76 photographs! I am so thankful for those of you who come back week after week with your submissions! It’s making my job of putting together an 18 photograph gallery especially difficult!

If you have any suggestions for a future theme, please add it to the Upcoming Themes Flickr discussion thread or just reply to this entry.

Oh, Bananas

We’re huge fans of bananas around here. We buy several bunches a week. We all like them and Elias has eaten one daily since he was one.

This morning I went to hang a bunch of bananas onto the banana tree and, well…

The bananas just all fell off the stems. I’m not sure that’s ever happened to me before. I put them in a green bag; I’m not sure what else could possibly save them. I’d hate to forfeit the whole bunch, but maybe this is the Universe’s way of telling me some banana bread needs to be baking in my oven.

This post was inspired by Color Splash Sunday @ Artistically Amy. It’s late, but fits in well with their last theme, How People Enjoy Food.

Noah’s Birthday Party

On Sunday we invited several friends and family members over to celebrate Noah’s first birthday! Mark and I are not really the partying type (or maybe it’s just that I’m not the partying type?) and we’ve never truly held a party. The biggest party we’ve ever hosted before was on Mark’s birthday when we had about seven or eight guests in the apartment. For Noah’s party there were roughly 20 guests.

I didn’t start stressing out about it until Thursday or Friday when I realized how much needed to be unpacked and cleaned. Being inexperienced party throwers, I also thought ours would probably be a huge flop. I don’t have anything to compare it to since, as I mentioned, I’m not into the party scene, but I think it went well.

Wordless Wednesday: Pretzel Ball Ice Cream [139/365]

My mom got these butter flavored pretzel balls when she went to Costco and they’re just about the greatest thing ever on top of ice cream.

Bow Wow Luau [135/365]

05-15-10 - Bow Wow Luau Maple Sugar Matching ToesMy sister-in-law Kathy volunteers for Legacy Boxer Rescue and invited my mom and I to the Bow Wow Luau silent auction. There were lots of cute boxers and other assorted dogs there in luau and beach attire. So many generous people donated their time, services or goods to make the event happen. There were nearly toxic margaritas and delicious food. I bid on and won a personal chef experience creating natural dog treats at Three Dog Bakery. I gave that to my mom because she’s been interested in learning to make dog treats for a while now and I know she’ll enjoy it. It was a really cool event! Legacy Boxer Rescue is a great organization and I hope we’ll become more involved in helping them now that we live here.

The appetizer spread was good with an assortment of dips, vegetables and awesome chicken and vegetable skewers. The deserts were downright heavenly though. Chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate dipped marshmallows, lemon cake balls, cupcakes and chocolate chip cheesecake dip with Scooby Snack graham cracker dog treats! My 50mm lens couldn’t really get far enough away from all the action to photograph the cute dogs, so I mostly focused on the beautiful food.
