Guest Posting Guidelines

Thank you so much for your interest in guest posting on Daily Window! If you would like to submit an article for consideration, please fill out the form at the bottom of this entry with a pitch and link to your site. Please continue reading for your article requirements and the details I’m looking for in your pitch!

Or be taken straight to the pitch form…

Category Guidelines

Your article must be relevant to my site! Please include in your pitch which category your article fits into. If you’d like some example topics for these categories, please let me know!

  • Photography: The article should include tips, techniques or inspiration for photographic skill improvement and should be of general interest to all photographers.
  • Photo Editing: The article should include information, tricks, tutorials or walk-throughs of a photo editing program of your choice, preferably Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.
  • Blogging: The article should deal with any aspect of blogging or social media. Preferably it will introduce or clarify a new idea or otherwise inspire the readers to make their own blogs better.

Basic Requirements

I’m picky, but if I like your pitch and style, I will be happy to work with you on these basic article requirements:

  1. 300-1000 words
  2. English only. Please use proper spelling and grammar.
  3. Must include at least one photograph or screenshot of at least 400px. (see below for more image requirements).
  4. Include a 125×125 photograph or button for your site AND biography information up to 50 words at the end of your submission.

Image Requirements

  1. The maximum number of images in an article is per my discretion.
  2. The maximum image width is 620px.
  3. Photographs that are not your own MUST be properly credited!
    • You may only use others’ photographs if you have written permission from the photographer -OR- the photograph is licensed under any Creative Commons Attribution license.
  4. If your images break in the future, your article will be pulled after attempting to contact you to resolve. I would strongly prefer you upload the images to my site OR host them on Flickr.

Linking Policies

All links are welcome if used within the article in a tasteful way.

  1. You do not need to interlink to my old posts, but that would be nice. If I see an opportunity to interlink to my site in your article, I’m going to.
  2. You may link to your own content, products or services.
  3. You may use your own affiliate links.
Please note: I have a plugin that changes all Amazon links to include my referral information. That means if you want to include affiliate Amazon links, you need to use a URL shortening service.

Republishing Policies

You own your words. I’m not going to take that away from you.

  1. The article should be previously unpublished. (So please don’t go digging through your archives for something to submit.)
  2. Once published on my site, please wait two weeks before republishing on your site or submitting to others.

Formatting Preferences

If you are unsure how to accomplish these, please do not let that discourage you from submitting an article! I will work with you on formatting per these guidelines.

  1. Please consider sub-headings (H2-H4) to make your content easier to read.
  2. Large images (400px +) should be centered on their own line
  3. Smaller images should look nice in the article: aligned to the left or right of a paragraph with margins/padding or multiple smaller images on their own line with margins/padding.
  4. Please use unordered and ordered lists where appropriate.
    • Unordered list items will appear like this

Editorial Policies

I am going to review your article and will probably have editing suggestions, so you must be open to editing your article to appease the little school teacher sitting on my left shoulder. Ultimately, your approval will be needed on all written edits, however I retain final control over the formatting of the article.

Submit Your Pitch!

All fields on this form are required. Once submitting your pitch, you should hear back from me in a couple of weekdays. For your pitch, I’m just looking for a few sentences that indicate what you want your submitted article to be about. Specifics are cool, but we can iron those out in the editing process!
