Scavenger Hunt Sunday!

Photography Scavenger Hunt Sunday! This is my first week participating in the awesome Ashley Sisk‘s Scavenger Hunt Sunday. And by “week” I mean that late Saturday night I read the entry and became determined to find all the shots at Easter lunch with Mark’s parents yesterday. Ashley’s had this photo meme going on for such a long a long time and it’s really something I need to start doing regularly to challenge myself. She posts the whole hunt items a week in advance and more time would have been better! I feel like I’m really stretching on some of these items.

1. Reflections

04-24-11 - Reflections

Aperture: f/3.2 – ISO 400 – Shutter Speed: 1/25. 50mm lens.

Every time I see a picture I’ve taken in a reflection I realize I hold my camera all wrong. I blame it on the lightness of the 50mm. It kind of feels ridiculous to put my left hand under the tiny lens. It does feel more necessary with the 18-105mm lens, but still I just forget.

Though I haven’t taken a self portrait in a couple of weeks, I’m not sure whether or not I want to include this one. I probably should!

2. Guess What This Is

04-17-11 - Guess What This Is

Aperture: f/9 – ISO 200 – Shutter Speed: 1/250. 18-105mm lens @ 52mm with extension tubes.

I’m totally just throwing this shot in here because I couldn’t get anything yesterday. I like the color and think it’s kind of abstract, but not really my thing. It’s a close up of a Lilly petal.

3. What’s Inside?

04-24-11 - What's Inside - Taken by Mark

Taken by Mark. Aperture: f/5.6 – ISO 200 – Shutter Speed: 1/60. 18-105mm lens @ 105mm.

Here I am totally cheating because my husband Mark took this shot. I did try to get a picture of an Easter egg in hiding, but it didn’t turn out so I’m stealing my husband’s shot of a Cardinal nest with a baby Cardinal inside hidden away in a bush in front of my in-laws’ house. He got up on a ladder to get this shot!

4. Playtime

04-24-11 - Fun with Sticks

Aperture: f/5.6 – ISO 200 – Shutter Speed: 1/100. 18-105mm lens @ 105mm.

My boys had a killer fun time with their family on Easter. The weather was perfect and we spent hours outside! Mr. Serious found a detached garden nozzle which Boa promptly decided was the funnest toy on the planet. He spent at least a half an hour walking around with his new stick and stomping it on the sidewalk. He was quite upset when I took it away from him after he nearly smacked me in the face and almost smashed my camera.

5. Lawn & Garden

04-24-11 - Tiny Purple Flower Close-Up

Aperture: f/4.5 – ISO 400 – Shutter Speed: 1/80. 50mm lens with extension tubes.

This is the only shot I knew going into the day I’d be able to get. My mother in law has a gorgeous garden! She says these are Oxalis. I really need to get a field guide or something because I can’t identify anything more obscure than a rose and even then I’m a bit iffy.

The Next Hunt!

This week’s hunt items are up:

  1. Architecture – This one’s going to be hard considering I never leave the property!
  2. Rimmed with Light – What an awesome prompt, but this is going to be HARD!
  3. Toes or Feet – This should be possible considering we have twelve pairs of toes or feet hanging out around here.
  4. This is my favorite.. – This is a cool one. I’m going to need to give it some thought.
  5. Shade(s) – Love this one since it can be interpreted so many ways!

I’m going to do my best to challenge myself to participate in at least one or two of these a month. It’s an awesome exercise and will help me find some new bloggers to follow considering how many people link up each week.

If you have or can take shots that fit these hunt items, you still have until Tuesday to go link up with Ashley!
