It’s never good when a blogger needs to start their post out with an apology, but damn the gods, I’m going to do it anyway.
I’m sorry!
I’m supposed to get up my Project 52 Self-Portrait entries on Monday, but yesterday was murderous (to my time. No one died.) Among many other things, I was busy polishing up my article over at The Secret to Success is Support: Ask the Expert: How Can I Learn HTML and CSS. Go check it out and while you’re at it, join up with SITS. They are a fabulous community!
Of course when I’m late putting up the post and linky, I actually get publicity for it! Courtney at One Mom’s Perfect Imperfection was kind enough to link over here with the intention of joining in! Go check out Courtney’s self-portraits! Straight out of the camera!
Also thanks to Courtney I found an amazing photography blog with a self portrait twist called Selfie Magic! Elana is gorgeous and insanely talented at the art of self-portraiture. She even has a weekly meme called Selfie Saturdays! It makes me feel kind of self-conscious about my own self portrait project and link up, but whatever. If there can be 15 link ups for Wordless Wednesday, I think we can have a few for self-portraits too.
Join in with us!
Pepper and I are challenging ourselves to weekly self-portraits this year and we’d love it if you joined in with us for a week or more. A lot of the time, us momographers are holed up behind the camera. I personally take the majority of our family photos so I’m not in them a whole heck of a lot. Unless my husband takes the shot, the photos taken of me are usually just not very good. Blurry, low resolution… I don’t want to be remembered like that.
This week’s theme is: Raw (Unedited) which you can interpret as straight out of the camera or something else entirely. We announce the themes way in advance so you can start thinking about and planning your shots! Here are the remaining themes for March:
- 3/7: Hidden (Hosted by Pepper)
- 3/14: Being Green (Hosted by Lynda)
- 3/21: Past & Present (Hosted by Pepper)
We have only two rules for linking up (so tiny I’m going to write them in small text):
- Share a recently taken self-portrait.
- Use the absolute URL of your photo or entry, not a link to your homepage. Links to Flickr pages are fine!
You can use this code to grab the button made from Pepper’s nifty logo if you’d like to put it in your entries, but it totally isn’t required.

My “RAW” Submission
Over the weekend, some family got together and visited a drive-through wildlife reservation called Fossil Rim. My husband and I took over 300 pictures there! All of them are still unedited, so maybe sometime this week I’ll get the pictures up in a post.
This was my third visit to Fossil Rim, but my first with my kids. They loved it so much! Since you go through the park at 5 miles an hour or under, young children don’t need to be in the carseat. It was an extra added bonus for the little tykes to sit in a grown-up’s lap, or in the case of Boa, try to climb out the windows.
I shot this out my window while at the park only because I knew I’d need a self-portrait this week and any old straight out of the camera self portrait would allow me to fulfill the theme.
It’s always interesting for me to see how I hold my camera. I have no conscious knowledge of holding it the way I do.
Luckily, this week’s Shoot and Edit with Jill and Ashley has a self-portrait theme, so I can use my straight out of the camera shot and then go back and share an edit of it on Thursday!
Please feel free to add your recently taken self-portrait below, whether or not it matches with the theme!

I love this capture of you and Elena is great for posting self portrait tips!

Thanks Ashley.
I think you did a neat selfie
I’m glad you are learning so much and enjoying this process along the way too!

Thank you Jill! Photography is a pretty fascinating hobby.
I love this perspective for a self portrait & I think it’s too cute that your kiddos are in the background! You are a true mom!

Thank you Courtney!
One of my kiddos is in the picture. The face in the background is my sister in law. The other is my 3 year old, Mr. Serious, who did not try to climb out the windows, thankfully.

Very nice
I like fun ones like this… I did one once in the reflection of my husband’s sunglasses….it’s pretty cool

Thanks Lindsay! I did one of those sunglass reflection shots too. Very fun.

Classic! Thanks so much for the link love, Lynda! I appreciate it and so glad you love Elana’s blog. I have NO idea what i’ll be doing for Selfie Saturday this week. Guess I should get on that!

I haven’t even dug into her site yet! I’m excited to see more self portraits. I’m so totally intimidated to do anything really creative requiring a tripod or more.
Thank you for linking up!
Fun selfie! Looking forward to your edit!
I would so love to have a drive-thru animal reserve nearby. I will have to start searching for the nearest one.

Thanks Kimberly! It’s a pretty cool place and so much better for the animals than a zoo!

A common shot that I always like. Elena has awesome tips and ideas for SPs.

Thanks Jill! I can’t wait to dig into Elena’s site some more.
Creative self-portraits totally intimidate me.
