Project 52: Self-Portraits: In the Car

This is my first week in a while attempting my self-portrait without a theme. To be honest, I did not intend to use this photo for my self-portrait this week, but time got away from me and it was the only one I took.

03-27-11 - Project 52 Self Portrait - In the Car

This photo was taken this weekend. Earlier in the day, my mom graciously watched the kids so Mark and I could go see Limitless (with Bradley Cooper and Bobby De Niro). Though we paid in gift cards, the movie was well worth spending $Movie$Money$ to go see.

After the movie, we picked up the kids and took them to my sister-in-law’s puppy viewing party. She volunteers for Save the Boxers and is fostering the mother dog and puppies right now. I did take my camera to the party, but didn’t feel like whipping it out, though I almost did to get a picture of my boys sitting together on a bench. I have a bad habit of choking up photographically whenever I get somewhere, especially if people are around.

03-27-11 - Boxer PuppyI took the camera into the (dark dark dark) puppy room, but this was the best shot I could get (at 1600 ISO. Cropped a LOT. Sigh.) Mark was holding the puppy up to the light for me while Mr. Serious tried (succeeded in?) locking Boa into the empty dog crate and then attempted to (actually did?) pour out the dogs’ water. I’m not really sure; my back was turned. This is another big reason why it’s hard to have my camera out around the kids.

Boa was hilarious around the grown up boxers while Mr. Serious generally ignored them. The sister-in-law’s cute white, stubby and deaf boxer with an overbite (named Winston) took a liking to Boa and tried to lick him several times. Boa very calmly said, “Noooooooooo” in his little voice. Though I don’t know if he’s really seen a dog as big as he is before, he didn’t freak out. I thought he handled the dog smooches very well!

Self-Portrait Link Up

Project 52 Self PortraitsI’ve partnered up with Pepper of PepperScraps to complete 52 weeks of Self-Portraits this year. We both feel that as the mom and primary photographer for the family, we’re often left out of photos unless we plan ourselves into them.

It’s important to our kids and ourselves to document who we are and how we’re changing, hopefully for the better.

Since sharing a self-portrait can be hard and scary, we want to invite anyone motivated to snap their self-portrait to link up to us. You don’t need to commit to the full project, but if you have a recent self-portrait, we would love to see it!
