Nearly two weeks ago my family met up at Fossil Rim, a local drive through wildlife reserve in Glen Rose, Texas. Mark and I took a total of 338 photos and it’s taken me this long to sort through them all and edit them. 71 out of 338 made the cut!
I’ve been there twice before, but this was my first time there with my kids! Because the speed limit is so slow and it’s a private road, car seats are not required. (I feel like I need to mention this, lest I get a comment about why my kids are hanging out of the car window.)
We had so much fun! I knew Mr. Serious would have a blast, but wasn’t sure about Boa. Turns out he was very observant, pointing out animals and talking about them loudly and excitedly!
Mr. Serious loved feeding the tamer animals by hand, even though you’re technically not supposed to. He got a bit upset when the animals were hanging out on Boa’s side.
At the end of the drive through the park, Boa fell asleep on his grandfather’s lap and he didn’t wake back up again until we got home. He was so upset, poor baby!
Here are a few more of my favorites from the day.
You can see all photos below or in my Fossil Rim Flickr set. If you’re interested, you can also take a look at the shots Mark got. Some of them are really good and since I was using manual settings, he exposed manually too!

I really, really love the close-up of the bird feathers. It’s so artistic and abstract. I usually don’t think of brown as beautiful, but in this case it definitely is!
