My Three Year Old

You may have noticed I haven’t posted in a few weeks. I’ve been incredibly busy, but hope I’ll be back to updating regularly soon.

In the meantime, I absolutely HAD to post today because my first born son turns three years old!

Mr. Serious joined us at 8:11pm on this day three years ago. Everyone told me newborns were ugly and I’d seen my share of ugly newborns so I was surprised when this perfect, compact little bundle was handed to me. He was more beautiful than I could have ever imagined.

In his first year of life, Mr. Serious taught me how to be a mother and showed me what a wonderful blessing it is. That did not come easily to me and for a few months I seriously questioned why I wanted to bring a baby into the world. He persisted in growing up, he unconditionally forgave me for all my mistakes and he smiled whenever I entered the room. Because of this, I fell in love with him and with being a mom.

In his second year of life, Mr. Serious’ personality fully escaped and though he was a very serious baby, he made us laugh on a regular basis. He learned how to walk and started to talk. He started sleeping in a toddler bed in his own room with nary a complaint. Mr. Serious began to understand that he could communicate verbally, however his inability to clearly state his exact desires left him frequently frustrated which led to a few months of tantrums. Again, I was questioning my parenting abilities and again Mr. Serious’ patience and persistence saw me through it.

The last year with Mr. Serious was a blast. He mastered the art of communication, now speaks in full sentences and sometimes surprises us with the words and phrases he’ll pick up. He loves to help and to figure things out for himself. He tells jokes and loves to make people smile. He’s empathetic and will comfort you if you’re sad or kiss your boo-boo if you’re hurt. He loves pretend play, art and games and has a rich, active imagination.

Mr. Serious paved the way for Boa, making it so much easier on us than it was the first time around. He loves Boa, shows concern for him and has taught his little brother so much.

10-01-10 - My Three Year Old

My precious little boy is three years old! It amazes me that Mark and I are raising such a wonderful little person. Everyone who spends any time with Mr. Serious falls in love with him.

I can’t wait to see what the next year will bring! Perhaps when he’s four I can get a birthday picture where his hands aren’t in his mouth…

Happy Birthday Mr. Serious!
