A couple of weeks ago, Mark found a toad out by our hose in the back yard. We spent close to half an hour looking him over carefully and trying to identify him using various websites to no avail. His description and appearance very closely matched that of the Texas Toad, however they do not have a stripe down their back! I guess he’s a hybrid.
I could’ve sworn I got a picture of Mr. Serious looking at him, but I guess not. Needless to say, he thought the little toad was his and was rather enamored by him. He was a mellow little guy we appreciated having around for a visit.
These photos were taken July 25. That’s how far behind I am in editing and publishing photos!

Maybe the stripe is a war-wound! Maybe it’s one long scar. LOL
Beautiful photos!!

Thank you! That’s a good idea about the scar! Looking at the photo again with his back facing me, it does seem crooked…
We had a toad too the other day! I had NO idea that toads are native to Texas. I thought we came across someone’s escaped pet. That is so neat! It’s neat that you got him on film.

We learned a lot about toads that day! We were surprised because there’s no ponds/wetlands immediately around here. He must’ve traveled a long way to get to our yard!
I was taking a bath when he showed up and Mark kept an eye on him to make sure he stayed around until I could photograph him.

And a beautiful frog/toad he is!

Very nice photos. I know what you mean about falling behind. There’s so much to do; I wished for one day a week to do photography; last week I chose Sunday
We’ll see how that works out.
Love the photos. Amazed at how close you got. What lens did you use?

Thanks Kimberly!
Right now ALL I have is a 50mm. Some were taken with one of my close-up filters on it though! I guess it’s not SO bad.

LOVE THEM!
It looks a lot like our European Green Toad… but it could it be an American Brown Toad? Either way he doesn’t have to be by a big source of water, he can just use a little puddle to soak water through his skin. Ours just sits in a bowl when he is “thirsty”.

I would love to have a toad. This guy was so cool and mellow, I hated letting him back into the “wild”.
We looked up American Brown Toad and it was close, but there was one feature that wasn’t there on this guy. It was so crazy! I think maybe Pepper’s right and he is a Texas Toad with a scar.
