4th of July Weekend

07-04-10 - Patriotic Blueberry Salad

On Saturday, Mark invited a few friends over for a barbecue. For the first time, he tried slow-cooking ribs and they turned out exactly like they should if you ordered them at a restaurant! He also cooked southwest chicken skewers to perfection and they were oh-so-tasty. I neglected to take any pictures of that food, sadly. I did get a picture of Mark’s red-white-and-blueberry salad pictured at the top of this entry.

We did a lot of playing outside, which the kids loved. The water table was a huge success! Several times, Emme (the cute little redhead) tried to climb into the water table, which only gave Elias ideas the following day when he attempted to do that as well. Luckily, he didn’t actually climb on top of it!

The following day we saw everyone again when we were invited to a 4th of July celebration. The kids had so much fun playing in the water, in the sandbox and out in the yard. Everyone loved the watermelon! The food was great (again, I did not get any pictures. I’m not sure what’s wrong with me.) I had a jalapeno cheese hot dog and a brisket sandwich.

Elias’ outside time ended after he went running on the wet concrete, slipped and bumped the back of his head. He was understandably upset for several minutes. The host allowed us into their bedroom to change Elias and get him calmed. It just so happened to be where they were sequestering the cats and the moment Elias saw one, his injury was forgotten.

Mark got more shots than I did and I love them! I was on the patio with the boys and he took the camera out to the yard where the adults were playing washers. I love his action shots! I wish he would have gotten some photos of their garden; it is absolutely gorgeous!

As the sun set, everyone gathered on a concrete slab up the street with a great view of the fireworks. I stayed inside with Noah since it was so far past his bed time and I didn’t know how he’d react (he does not like to be held and I didn’t want to set him free since I think the slab dropped off into nothingness.) We didn’t bother bringing our tripod, but Mark got a couple pictures of the festivities anyway.

It was a wonderful weekend filled with food and friends, two of my three favorite Fs! (The other one is family. Didn’t want to leave you hanging there.) I hope everyone else had a great 4th of July, or just plain old weekend for my non-American friends. If you wrote about your weekend, especially if you supplemented with a lot of photos, I’d love a nudge in your direction by way of a comment!

Oh wow. What a great time y’all had. Is the red white and blue thing a salad or a cake? You’ve done so well adjusting to the Texas lifestyle with all the BBQ and watermelon. XD
