Little People Adventures (or: What Happens When Mom Can’t Play The Sims)

This is what happens when you leave a reformed Sim addict alone with the kids’ toys.

06-01-10 - Cartoon - Tractor Story 6Meet Hillary. She recently obtained her commercial license to operate heavy construction equipment so she could follow her lifelong dream of working in the local rock quarry. She was recently hired only because her father’s old college buddy runs the business and owes him a favor. It kind of offended her because it’s not like people were lining up to work in the quarry and she didn’t like the notion that she couldn’t do something just because she’s a woman. Who did? She was the first woman employed at the quarry. Most of the other men refused to work the same shift as her, saying they valued their life too much. Only one guy, Redmond, was brave enough to work alongside her.

Today is her first day on the job.

Everything was going smoothly before lunch. Hilary was getting into a good groove and moved a respectable amount of rocks. She liked the control she felt. She even started a friendly competition with Redmond to see who could move the most total weight before lunch. Redmond was a seasoned rock mover with 12 years experience under his belt. His talent, experience and charm attracted Hilary and she wondered if Redmond was seeing anyone. She was able to get close enough to him at one point to tell there was no ring or tan line on his finger. She watched him closely as he took off his shirt to gain some small relief from the hot, summer sun. “There’s no way a guy like that is –”

“Shit.” Hilary made one of the greatest mistakes of operating heavy machinery by allowing her mind to be distracted. Luckily Redmond just went on break so she was alone in the rock quarry. She called her friend, Persephone to help her upright the vehicle before he returned. Once the wheels were firmly planted on the ground again, Hilary decided she had enough for one morning and asked Persephone out to lunch. They went to Jason’s Deli and Persephone complained the whole time about how gigantic their baked potatoes are. “You’re being annoying.” Hilary sighed at her friend, “I know what you can do to make it up to me…”

Hilary asked her friend to stay after lunch and play her enchanted lute. She’d only been taking magical music lessons for 3 weeks, but after watching her instructor with the harp, Persephone was pretty sure she had the basics of a fall-in-love song. Hilary was hopeful it might give Redmond a nudge in the right direction, though she was skeptical it would influence his feelings.

Two minutes into the song, Hilary caught Redmond’s eye and smiled. To her surprise, he jumped off his dozer and ran straight toward her! Persephone’s music actually worked!

Unfortunately, there were parts of the fall-in-love song she could not recall. So she improvised to fill in the blanks. Unbeknownst to her, the notes she strung together just so happened to perfectly mimic the beanstalk song and attracted the closest giant.

Redmond was smashed like a pancake and Hilary was lucky to be spared her life. Once Persephone stopped playing, the giant wandered away, but the damage was done.

Today is Hilary’s last day on the job.
