I want to start regularly sharing some of my great finds. I’ve been getting more into Google Reader lately and frequently “buzz” sites or articles that interest me, so these posts will be a compilation of the links I’ve collected throughout the week. Starting next week, I want to keep better track of where I’m commenting on others’ sites too so expect to see more under that heading in the future. You can always keep up with my current surfing right here on the site, or by following me on Google.
Current or Upcoming Photo Assignments

Photography Resources
- Finding Your Camera’s Current Shutter Actuations – When is your camera going to die?
- An Intro to HDR & Photomatix – We have Photomatix installed on the media center PC, but I’ve never truly tried taking 3+ exposures to merge. Doesn’t seem too hard a process.
- How to use Your Tripod (it’s not as simple as you think!) – This kind of intimidates me.
- Getting Started in Toy Photography – I have a set on Flickr for toys. We have a lot of toys around here, so it makes sense to use them!
- Finesse your Flash with a 60-second Snoot – “It takes less than a minute to fashion your snoot: curl up some cardboard or grab a paper towel tube — and ka-flash, you’re done! Really!”
- Photo Gadget of the Week: Cloak Bag – Interesting solution to traveling with an expensive camera, but I’m still not convinced.
- X-Rite Photo – Joe Brady Passport Promo – Lightroom – I enjoyed watching this video even though there’s no chance of me getting this thing.
Mr. Serious loves having his face painted! We just use regular Crayola paints. They’re non-toxic and wash off easily.
Commenting @
Places I’ve left comments this week.
- Raising My Boychick – Why Presumably Straight? – Interesting reasoning from a blogger with the tagline, “Feminist Thoughts Inspired by Parenting a Presumably-Straight White Male.”
- Birth: Things I Did Differently – On Twitter, I asked, ” If you knew you were probably not going to be able to produce enough milk to exclusively nurse and you’d be fighting for a VBA2C would you decide not to try for another, even if you felt you were not done having children?” @Kblogger responded with this link to her post.
- The Family Ware: The Boob-Tube Controversy – Nice to see other parents who don’t feel TV is TEH DEBIL! I definitely don’t think it’s necessary or appropriate for all families, but it CAN be used to supplement a toddler’s education without rotting their brain.

I’ve done a handful of HDR photos. I should dig ‘em up. They’re okay, and Photomatix is a very easy to use program. I think that’s also the program I use to make panorama images. Those came in handy when I was trying to photograph my parents’ house so they could list it.
Embrace the tripod! I’ve had to put mine in some interesting positions. Short leg, long leg, middle leg… But, once you get it stable, it really does help; especially when you’re going for HDR or panorama shots.
As for my external flash, it’s a Nishika Twin light 3010, and it’s been amazing. I have another flash somewhere in my studio, but the Nishika is the one I tend to use the most. I guess out of convenience.
The face painting is cute! *nom nom shoes*
I have that X-Rite Passport. LOVE it. I need to use it more often, I over-rely on my AWB. But using this helps speed up my post-processing in LR by far!
