Beautiful Sunday [136/365]

The weekend was mostly gorgeous, though I think the forecast called for scattered thunderstorms all throughout. Fittingly, there was plenty of sun on Sunday; in fact there was so much hot, bright sun that I wondered if we were actually in summer instead of mid-spring. By the time Mr. Serious woke from his nap, it was scorching outside. Mark and I decided to get him and ourselves into our respective bathing suits and play outside with the Waterpillar. I’m not sure about that toy; Mr. Serious still seems reluctant to run into it and it’s really difficult to keep upright on the freshly cut grass. It wasn’t long before we abandoned it altogether, put the nozzle back on the hose and took turns squirting each other. Unsurprisingly, Mr. Serious’ turns lasted longer than ours and there were more of them.

I felt like playing and joining these two photos together. I would LOVE to get out my tripod and do a proper “multiple Mr. Serious” shot!

I don’t believe it ever actually rained, but the clouds rolling in late afternoon looked threatening. I grew up in Maryland, where summer thunderstorms were frequent. If the electricity cut off, which was not uncommon, our sub-pump wouldn’t work and the basement would slowly start to fill with water. On more than one occasion, it was like a scene from the Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Unhappy times. In Georgia, spring and summer thunderstorms included the threat of tornadoes, but in my seventeen years of living there (I am really that old!?), I rarely felt afraid one would touch down near me. Texas is a bit scary though. Being able to see Oklahoma on the Weather Man’s map is not reassuring in the least. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like a strong summer shower, but I don’t want to look out my window and see a witch riding a bicycle carrying Teyla in the basket.

I was finally able to get my rose plant into the sun. It’s been windy for a while now and I didn’t want it to be abused by nature. My mom had it sent to me for Mother’s Day. She sent it from Mr. Serious and Boa though, so when I got it, I just assumed Mark sent them. She let me go on and on about how Mark shouldn’t have done that or should have sent it to the both of us. I sent a message to Mark while he was at work to thank him for sending them and more than an hour passed before he responded that he had no idea what I was talking about. After a few confusing seconds, I figured it out. Sadly, though the roses have looked fresh and pretty for well over a week while sitting inside, after a few hours in the sun they completely wilted. I’m not sure if I did something wrong or if it was their time. We need to replant it soon in a bigger pot.

Mark was rather productive this weekend and finally got around to hanging up our wooden growth chart. We measured Mr. Serious at a little over 3 feet, which is an inch or two taller than his height at two years. Mark also went to Lowe’s and got some new plants and a couple big pots. Planting anything will probably need to wait until next week.

Our new plants. No idea what they are, that’s how much I know about these things. Photo taken by Mark.

05-16-10 - Unflattering Lynda and Noah FacesMark also shot this hilarious, if not completely unflattering photo of me and Boa. I’m only posting it because our expressions somewhat match and I find it funny. I think it’s really easy to tell we’re mother and child here. It’s interesting that Mr. Serious seemed to end up with a lot of Mark’s facial features and Boa wound up with a lot of mine. Of course both have Mark’s brown eyes; I’m skeptical we could ever have a child together without brown eyes. We’re also noticing that Mr. Serious has a lot of my personality: he’s analytical, independent and short tempered. Will Boa have Mark’s personality? Spawning children is such an interesting science experiment!
