A Picture Kind of Day

05-30-10 - Elias PuddlesToday started out well, as most Sundays do when it’s my turn to sleep in. I woke around 10am and Noah was already down for a nap, just moments earlier. Mark, Elias and coffee were waiting for me out in the main part of the house.

I quickly discovered I left out the mug I got Mark for Father’s Day when he thanked me for it. I am so upset at myself! I took it out of its hiding place to show my mom last night and then I forgot to put it back. The mug is full of photos of Mark and the boys and one photo of the two of us. (I don’t think we have any photos with all four of us.) I was so excited to give it to him for Father’s Day and I didn’t even get to see his face when he found it! I cried a little bit, how could I not?

Before long we all headed outside. It was already close to seven million degrees out there and it wasn’t even noon yet! Elias helped Mark water the plants, which is one of his favorite things to do since he gets to hold water or maybe the hose, if he’s lucky. Since it was so hot out, we decided to get Elias’ swim trunks on and he and Mark took turns squirting each other with the hose.

After lunch and his quiet time, we decided we wanted to get out today and I started looking up kids haircut places since Elias is just long overdue for one. There aren’t many around here, but we lucked out and found once about 15 minutes away. When we entered the waiting room, Elias immediately found the play area with ts cool Thomas the Train table. We had to lure him into the chair with promises that he could watch Thomas. I’m not sure how he’d respond to a regular hair salon. Even with the TV and being in a cool fire engine, he was very distracted and didn’t want to keep still. Which was fine; they’re used to that. He was being really good, even though he didn’t sleep at all during his quiet time.

I didn’t take my Nikon with me when we went out, so I’m glad I always carry the point and shoot around in my purse. Noah had a blast in the waiting room and was pulling up all over the place. He only recently started pulling up on everything a few days ago and he’s already starting to cruise. (The photo below on the right of Noah and the video was taken by Mark.)

After the cut, we walked over to Chili’s, which was at the end of the strip. Noah did wonderfully and I guess Elias did okay considering he was really tired and didn’t much care to be cooped up in a seat. He kept asking to get down. Before our food came, I had to take him outside for a short little walk. Mark thinks our waiter was drunk, which would explain why he brought us the wrong food for Elias. He and Noah ate about a thousand french fries and nothing else.

Since we took two cars, it was obvious Elias was reaching the end of his rope and Mark and I had one store to go to, my mom took the boys home. Mark and I went to a sporting goods store and then a CVS. At both places, we bought way too much stuff. We got a wooden cutting board, a couple of water pistols, some picture frames, a couple of new notebooks and a Monopoly Deal deck among other things. While we were out, the clouds turned dark and it rained for all of a few minutes. The sky looked neat and again I’d taken my dSLR.

I got a couple of notebooks because I adore notebooks and I want to have something for the Creativity Boot Camp that starts in a few days. The one seen below is small enough to fit in my purse so I can carry it around with me to jot down notes or lists! I did photograph the other one, but it was inside at night under tungsten light and the pictures didn’t do it justice. It’s big with a green and yellow flower pattern and at the top of each page is a decorative butterfly.

When we went outside after getting home, I filled one of the water guns for Elias. He had a hard time operating it, but I think he had fun with it anyway. He liked squirting my legs, which he had permission to do, and into his watering can and into his mouth.

After the boys went to sleep, I got out a couple of the picture frames along with two prints I ordered when I got Mark’s mug. I put them together and put them up on the mantel, which is now quite full. I’d love to hang some pictures up, but just having one or two pictures on a wall seems odd to me. Frames are so expensive that I don’t think we could afford to fill a whole wall.

Then my mom, Mark and I played a few hands of Monopoly Deal. I recommend it, especially if you like card games. It’s much easier to play than Monopoly, takes less time and I think it’s more fun. Last night my mom and I played Scene It! Star Trek Edition and both of us did terribly. What strange questions they picked for the game. I really wish they’d come out with a Stargate version because I would kick butt at that! Anyway, playing all the games makes me long for a family game night, so I think we’ll be instituting that soon.

All in all it was a fun and productive day!

We have Monopoly Deal but haven’t played it yet. We’re leaning toward card games for 2-3 players, since it’s easier to store them compared to board games.

  2. Noah in a really, really cute romper!! :)
Congrats to that little guy for pulling up and cruising!

I love your notebook. I have started writing a daily ‘journal’ in cute little notebooks I’ve had lying around since high school. It’s nice to have a hard journal and an e-journal.

Thanks! I haven’t kept a hard journal since high school, but I love having notebooks around. I just can’t commit to writing daily on paper when it’s so easy to type my thoughts online. I’ve tried many times.

What a great sounding family day. Elias’ haircut is super cute. Isn’t this weather completely whacked out? Hot with a minute or two of storms, but mostly just hot. Yay for Noah pulling up and cruising! That’s awesome, but get yourself ready because once he walks, he’s going to run. That’ll make two for you to chase after. :D
