I need to start jotting down thoughts and picking out entry topics ahead of time. By the time I get a free minute to sit down and compose an entry, my mind has been turned to mush by work, kids, cleaning, laundry and a cat who’s angry about the state of her food dish.
I have been diligent about taking a photo a day since Thanksgiving! I got my new lens the day after. We keep the camera on the counter between the living room and kitchen while we’re home so it’s easily accessible. Mark has also been taking a lot of photos! It’s very nice. I think I might actually have a shot of completing Project 365 this year! A friend has started a Flickr group specifically for Project 365: 2010 if you’re interested.
If you’re interested in photography and not on Flickr, I really suggest you join. It’s a great place to store all your photos and share them. They have lots of specific groups devoted to a number of wonderful photography topics. There are critique groups, technique groups, theme groups, scavenger hunt groups; you name it! I was just starting to get into them and photography in general before becoming pregnant with Elias and then learning about photography took a back seat to learning about pregnancy and birth. I’m excited to be getting back into it and to be able to give this wonderful gift of documentation to my children when they are older!
Life has been really busy. It’s hard to make time for things like editing and posting photos, writing regularly, keeping up with friends across the globe, staying at least moderately informed about important news stories (we have a season pass to the Today show. it counts as news…) and keeping up with everything else. I want 2010 to become a year where I set out to and achieve specific goals both professionally and personally. I want to have a lot on my plate and get it all done with a smile on my face. I know it’s going to be hard, but nothing worthwhile isn’t; I’ve definitely learned that from having two babies in two years.
Have I mentioned I’d like to read 50 books next year? It’s an aggressive goal, but I miss reading. A lot. I read several books a week there for a while and I felt like I could think better. I probably need to make right with the library and find all the unread books I already own so I can start planning ahead. Planning is going to play a huge role in my life next year.
Mark and I need to start meal planning and become organized about the foods we buy, prepare, freeze and eat. For one, our budget requires us to. There is very little room for error and we need to make the most out of what we have. We also both need to start eating healthier and that means knowing what we’re going to eat throughout each day instead of letting our cravings and whims decide.
I think it will be a challenging and exciting year. I’m really looking forward to saying goodbye to 2009!

i hadn’t really considered doing 365 until I hear you talking about it. A friend did it last year and I really enjoyed seeing how active it made her online. I really would like to use my camera more, so it does seem like it would be a valuable exercise… but given that I don’t leave the house much, it seems like I’ll run out of things to take pictures of quickly.
I hope you’ll post about your menu plans, too – i love seeing how people choose their menus, even though I haven’t ever been good about blogging mine! I should make that part of grocery day
I’m excited about 365! I also don’t leave the house much, but I do have two kids and two animals, so it gives me something to shoot. There’s also a 365 Days group on Flickr which is a project to take a self portrait every day for a year. I know you take a lot of those (and I like them) so that might be a cool project for you to try.
I will most definitely post about my menu plans if we ever get around to making them! I blog a lot of the new recipes we try too.
I like your photo posts; they add depth and layer to the text, which is refreshing in a time when quick micro-posts are all the rage. I wish I had a better camera to take more pictures, but my point-n-shoot is showing its age after two years. The photos I get compared to your stunningly crisp and brilliantly colored pics… so embarrassing!
I like all cameras and think most of them can take cool photos with a unique style. The only camera I’ve come across that I just HATE HATE HATE is my Blackberry cameraphone and I think something’s wrong with it.
You can do a lot in post processing (digital darkroom stuff, not manipulation) to enhance the photo. Flickr has some editing tools now which are pretty cool. You could try bumping up the contrast, saturation and sharpness of some of your photos to see if that helps the results any. Either way, I wouldn’t say P&S cameras yield embarrassing results.
We have a Cannon P&S we’ve had for about a year and it’s not bad, but you can tell the difference in my D50 pics.
