The Weekend

This weekend has been pretty eventful.

Yesterday morning we met an ex-coworker of Mark’s at a mall nearby. She was returning a carseat base she’d borrowed. Originally she said she also had a pack ‘n play for us, but when Mark checked on it, she said she no longer had it. When we got there, however, turns out she’d bought us a new pack ‘n play! I was so overcome with her generosity that I let it slide when she made a comment about how GOOD it was that my birth plan with Elias didn’t go accordingly because I really didn’t want to have a natural birth with my first child. Wow. What does that even mean? People just really don’t know how absolutely stupid and insensitive their comments come out. I’m not sure how she thought this was a positive comment. She was also concerned about me having a home birth (and made sure to ask how far away the hospital was), but at least she was nice about it and tried to say some nice things.

060Yesterday afternoon was filled with “re-decorating” Elias’ room including setting up his toddler bed. That’s going a bit better today. Last night I’d found Elias on the floor another time and put him back to bed. This afternoon, he napped on his bed and didn’t have a single problem. Tonight so far he hasn’t fallen out of bed and he looks SO super comfy every time I go check on him. I was skeptical that it would work out tonight. Elias curled up in his bed when we said good night and I stayed with him for a while to see if he’d fall asleep with me rubbing his back and such. This seemed to just get him excited that I was staying and he crawled out of bed. He flopped around on the pillows and bean bag on the floor and played around with his stuffed animals. Every once in a while he’d come over to me for cuddles. When he wouldn’t stop rubbing his eyes, I asked him to get in his bed again and he just sat in it. I said goodnight to him again and walked out. He whined once and then it was immediately quiet. I checked on him about 30 minutes later and he was curled up perfectly in his bed.

The boy constantly amazes me.

Today, Mark let me sleep in until 9:30 and then made me breakfast (which didn’t turn out so well, but he tried!) My mom came over around noon and brought a Winnie-the-Pooh ride on toy along with her. It’s pretty cool and Elias LOVES it. We all went out to lunch at a buffet pizza place called Stevie B’s and Elias ate NOTHING. That’s not exactly true. He had maybe two pieces of pasta, a few bites of my mom’s salad and maybe 3/4 of a breadstick. He was only interested in the breadstick because he could dip it in alfredo sauce and lick off the sauce. He LOVES to dip things and then lick it off.

After that, we went to Monkey Joe’s and I was a bit disappointed. I can’t really articulate my disappointment at the moment since there was nothing horrible about the place. They make it out to be SUPER toddler friendly on the website and it very much isn’t. Elias didn’t know what to think of the bouncy houses at first and was very intimidated by them. It didn’t take him long to figure it out, but an adult (me or my mom) needed to be with him pretty much at all times and there weren’t many bouncy toys that would accommodate us climbing in. (Adults could be with children under 4 to assist them.) It’ll probably be more fun in about a year or so.

We were exhausted by then (I do not recommend climbing in and out of bouncy houses at nearly 37 weeks pregnant) so we went home and filled Elias’ little pool with water. He had fun splashing around, chasing bubbles and yelling at Leah through the open window. He still wouldn’t climb into it. I don’t know why Mark filled it again with ice cold instead of lukewarm water, but next time he knows…

Elias was a little goof ball this weekend. He was a little crankier and easier to upset than usual for the entire day, but still a joy to be around. It was a great weekend and a fun Mother’s Day.
