Apocalyptic

I am way too lazy to link, but 20 13 out of the 28 I don’t know how many employees running LJ (all the programmers and tech geeks who actually run this place) were fired and everyone’s downloading their LJ like they’re closing up their doors without warning tomorrow. I don’t know if it’s paranoia or an obvious conclusion. This isn’t the first time people have gone running for the hills because LJ was about to explode. I don’t need an excuse to pick up an extra worry, so I’m downloading my LJ too.

LJ Archive (again, too lazy to link. Google’s your friend.) is working pretty easily and downloads entries AND comments.

I’ve been wanting to move away from LJ for a while, back to my own space. The idea of running a website again (it’s hard work with all the designing and program tweaking and plugin writing and such!) is exhausting and unappealing. But I can’t stand plug-and-play templates and out of the box blogging programs. Why am I such a blog snob? It makes moving away from LiveJournal super hard. Maybe I won’t have a choice.

Hope we can all keep in touch; the end is coming. Better download your archives while you still can.

ETA: If you can’t tell, I’m being sarcastic and overly dramatic in most of this post. I hate to hear that more people are losing their jobs though. :(

LJ Archive did a great job and I’m going to look into setting up a new site and importing everything to WordPress soon. Or not. I haven’t decided.
