I thought with everyone telling me that “sleep begets sleep” I’d be in for a decent night last night. No. During the day, he was awake for about 60-90 minutes at a time and napped for 60-150 minute stretches. Then, come 6pm he woke up, was fed, I went to the store and he was awake until nearly 2am (8 hours?) and absolutely refused to go to sleep. Finally, I was able to nurse him to sleep in bed. I’m not sure who fell asleep first, but I’m pretty sure I did.
Today he got up at 9:30 am (he had a feeding between 2 and then, I think around 6) and didn’t go to sleep again until 2:00. He’s still asleep from that.
I don’t know how to GET him to sleep. I don’t know how to get him to STAY asleep. It used to be that nursing him to sleep worked, but now it doesn’t. I took him on a 30 minute drive this afternoon to get him to nap.
How do you get a 1 month old to sleep when they’re clearly tired, get themselves right on the edge of sleep, but refuse to stay that way?
He’s driving me crazy.
