Clean!

Holy Hannah!

The event ended around 2:00 and as expected, I was told I could go home. I got home by 2:30 (I love middle-of-the-day traffic!) and immediately started straightening and cleaning the dining area (which, if you’ll recall, was on my list of things to do before the end of the year!).

I am ashamed I let it get so bad, but here is what it looked like before:

Dining Area Before

The chair against the wall was just piled with mail and junk and there was stuff from Christmas in the corner behind the chair. Lots more mail and junk on top of and on the shelf of the microwave cart. Not to mention all the crap on the table. This is the worst of our public areas, but the study and the closet are more cluttered and disorganized. I threw away a lot of stuff, but since we don’t really have anywhere to put the important stuff I needed to keep, I put it in the study for the time being. I think the study will probably be a project in our future. I am not sure if I could bear allowing you to see a before picture of that though.

And yes, those are pet food dishes on the table. We rarely ever use our dining table and when we do, we just remove the dishes and scrub it down first. We have to keep the cat’s dishes out of reach from Teyla or she’ll gorge herself on cat food. (The cats do not touch her food.)

By 4:00 or so, it was all done. Here’s how it looks now:

Dining Area After

Not perfect or anything, but a heck of a lot better than before! I also cleared the cobwebs in all the public areas, cleaned the fan blades, cleaned the chandelier above the table (Only then did I notice one of the little light bulbs were out.) and cleaned the living room and kitchen. I also vacuumed all the public areas and steam cleaned the carpet in the dining area. (I’m saying public areas like they’re actually public. By this, I just mean the areas our guests have access to when we have company. Basically everything but the bedroom and study.)

I was pretty much done by 5:30, so it took about three hours. This is why I have a hard time cleaning the way I should be cleaning. I am far too exhausted to clean for three plus hours when I get home from work in the evening and who wants to spend all weekend cleaning!? I think my best bet might be to take a day off of work and just see how much I can get done in the bedroom and study.

Here’s an extra picture of our “alcohol shelf”. I’d love to have a true liquor cabinet or bar one day, but for now, this will do:

Alcohol!

Mark should be home soon, so I’m going to go get cleaned up (Lotion. I desperately need lotion.) and start relaxing. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Good job! And don’t feel bad, ours looks worse.

I love your alcohol shelf! My first Christmas after I moved out, I used all the $$$ from my parents and grandparents to buy myself a hardbar. Mom was appalled. Grandma is proud. But the basics are covered.

I keep them all in a buffet cabinet, below the turtle tank.
